- Jim Dawson began his career in law after being admitted to the New York Bar in January 1972. He entered the U.S. Army as a captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps in April of that year and served at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri until July 1975.
After discharge, Jim returned to his native New York and opened a private practice of law in Elizabethtown where he practiced until elected County, Family and Surrogate Court Judge for Essex County in 1991. He served in that capacity until Janurary 1995 when he assumed the dutues of Supreme Court Justice, having successfully run for election to that office in November 1994.
Jim grew up in Mineville, New York graduating from Moriah Central School (1963), St. Michael's College (1967) and Albany Law (1971). Jim has been married to Nancy J. Holm for thirty five years and together they have two grown daughters.
