Personal Statement
  • JOHN RIORDAN served as Judge of the Surrogate's Court and as Acting Supreme Court Justice for 10 years. He also served as a District Court Judge for 7 years. During his 17 years on the bench, John Riordan presided over a wide variety of cases, including civil, criminal, business, wills, estates and adoptions. As a Judge, he has issued more than 9,000 written decisions, of which fewer than 20 have been reversed on appeal. He has lectured to professional and community groups on issues relating to wills, trusts and estates. Prior to being elected, he was a practicing lawyer for 24 years representing individuals and businesses. He is an active member of his community and served as a volunteer fireman for 16 years. He has been married to Lynn for 45 years. They have two grown sons. He is a member of state and local bar associations and of the Catholic Lawyers Guild. He was recently found to be "well qualified" to serve as a Supreme Court Justice by the independent Bar Association screening panel.
