Personal Statement
  • A Brooklyn Law School graduate, Judge Engel practiced law for 25 years at the firm of Mahler, Harris & Engel, P.C. He has tried numerous and varied cases and has argued many appeals in the Appellate Divisions and the Court of Appeals. Judge Engel was appointed a Mediator for attorney/client grievances and was appointed a Court Examiner in Article 81 Guardianship proceedings. In 2005 Judge Engel became the Principal Law Secretary to Hon. Elaine Jackson Stack, with whom he worked until his election to the Nassau County District Court in November 2006. Judge Engel served as Dean of the Nassau Academy of Law, is a member of the Academy of Law, the We Care Advisory Board, the Community Relations and Public Education Committee and the Board of Directors of the Nassau County Bar Association. Judge Engel frequently lectures for a number of bar associations. The judge is presently the President of the Nassau County District Court Judges Association. He has been endorsed by the Court Officers Benevolent Association of Nassau County and has been found well qualified to serve as a Justice of the Supreme Court by the Nassau and Suffolk County Bar Associations.
