Candidate Biography
Personal Statement
  • I recently marked my 18th anniversary on the bench, an occasion that provided me with an opportunity to reflect upon my experiences as a judge, and my life-long career in public service law. My professional background, which includes 5 years as a Staff Attorney with The Legal Aid Society, 8 years as a Court Attorney in the Appellate Division, 4 years as a Criminal Court Judge, and 14 years as a Supreme Court Justice, spans a period of 31 years. As I seek re-election to the Supreme Court, it is with a continuing commitment to use my experience, legal skills, and knowledge in service to the public, ever mindful that with the awesome power of the office comes an enormous responsibility that must be carefully and compassionately exercised each day, with each case. It is a never-ending challenge, but one that energizes me and serves to remind me why I chose a career in law. I am pleased to note that I have received favorable ratings from each of the screening panels that has reviewed my experience, decisions, references, and general qualifications to continue to do this critical work.
