Personal Statement
  • Erika McDaniel Edwards is an experienced litigator who has devoted her entire 18 year career to serving the public. She is a former prosecutor; former associate at an insurance defense firm; plaintiff's counsel on personal injury and civil rights cases; court-appointed criminal defense attorney in federal and state courts; volunteer lawyer; moderator and panelist on numerous programs; and coordinator of free legal clinics for the community. She is also life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a public service organization. Erika is a founding partner of a Harlem-based law firm, Donaldson, Chilliest & McDaniel. She is a member of the prestigious Criminal Justice Act Panel, which permits her to handle court-appointed criminal defense cases in Manhattan federal court. She also specializes in personal injury, estate planning, civil rights violations involving false arrest and excessive force/misconduct and private criminal defense cases. She and her husband have an eight year old son who is in fourth grade. Erika possesses the necessary temperament, character, background, experience and judgment to be an excellent judge.
