Candidate Biography
Personal Statement
  • Since 1998 I have been privileged to serve as a Supreme Court Justice. My service has included presiding over matrimonial cases, the Commercial Division and for the past 3 1/2 years in the Appellate Division, 2nd Department. During my time in the trial court, I was the most published judge in New York State. Many of my decisions were groundbreaking in the fields of electronic discovery, corporate governance and civil practice. My approach to all cases is to learn the issues, listen carefully to both sides and render a just and fair resolution. My judicial philosophy has always been to be the kind of judge before whom anyone would want to appear if my life was on the line. My work ethic and reputation on the trial bench earned me a merit appointment by Gov. Paterson to the Appellate Division, 2nd Deparment; the country's busiest appellate court. There I have taken principled stands in all areas of the law. I have written many decisions which have had an impact, not just on the lives of the litigants, but also on subsequent cases. My work has been recognized by various court employee, police and public unions which have all endorsed my re-election.
