Personal Statement
  • Judge Spergel is a Nassau County District Court Judge since 2007 and is assigned to the Driving While Intoxicated Part where he presides exclusively over cases involving Driving While Intoxicated by alcohol and drugs. In this capacity Judge Spergel has handled well over 1000 cases and has presided over approximatly 55 jury trials. Prior to becoming a District Court Judge and attorney, Judge Spergel was a Detective in the New York City Police Department serveing in both the Narcotics Division and the Organized Crime Investigations Division. Judge Spergel recently received the Law Enforcement Achievement Award from the New York Veteran Police Association and is endorsed by the New York State Fraternal Order of Police. Judge Spergel has been admitted in New York since 1997 and is also admitted in New Jersey, North Carolina,and Florida, Judge Spergel has been found to be Well Qualified by the Nassau County Bar Association. Over the past 15 years, Judge Spergel has been a support group leader for parents of chronically ill children for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of American (CCFA), as well as serving as a member of the board of trustees Long Island Chapter.
