Personal Statement
  • Since 1999, I have been a professor at Hostos Community College where I have taught several different law classes. I am currently a member of Bronx Community Board 4; the Association of Law Secretaries of the Supreme and Surrogate’s Courts in NYC; and the Council District 17th Round Table Advisory Committee. I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.and coach students for a mock trial program. I have presented for the Family Court PACT Program and have been a member of the Dominican Bar Association; the Black Bar Association, Bronx County; Bronx Community Board #9; Bronx Legal Services; NY League of Puerto Rican Women; and the Dominican National Round Table. I am admitted in the First Judicial District, the Federal Eastern and Southern Districts, US Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, and the US Supreme Court. I have worked in the Appellate Term, First Department; Civil and Criminal Supreme Courts; Criminal and Civil Courts; Family Court; and Small Claims Court. The Bronx Democratic Committee endorsed me as their candidate for Civil Court Judge. I am a dedicated community servant with the requisite experience, compassion; and qualifications to serve as a Judge.

  • Children’s Law Center, Bronx, NY Law Guardian March 2006 – May 2008 Represented children in custody, visitation, neglect, child support and domestic violence cases in Family Court and the Integrated Domestic Violence Part. Responsibilities included client interviewing as well as interviews of collateral sources, motion practice, investigations, hearings, memoranda, in camaras, referrals to applicable resources, hearings and trials.
  • Civil Court, New York, NY Court Attorney to Honorable Manuel J. Mendez January 2004 – March 2006 Reviewed proposed orders and scheduled hearings, conferenced all cases including cases involving litigants in Small Claims Court and the Pro Se part; drafted opinions, decisions and orders on motions for summary judgment concerning No-Fault Insurance Law, motions to sever, motions to compel, motions for attorney’s fees, motions for protective orders and motions to vacate default judgments.   • The Legal Aid Society, Bronx, NY Staff Attorney, Criminal Defense Division September 1997 – December 2003 Represented indigent clients from arraignment through trial. Responsibilities included client interviewing, bail applications, motion practice, investigations, suppression hearings, line-up procedures, memoranda, plea negotiations, pre-pleading and pre-sentencing memoranda, and extensive contact with clients and families. Clients were also represented at school suspension; probation; parole; and immigration hearings.
