Candidate Biography
Personal Statement
  • I was born in Ulster County and resided there until age 25. I received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army. My wife and I have resided in Columbia County since 1976. We have 5 children. I was a teacher of the handicapped for 4 years. I have been in private practice since 1982 and have tried cases, including eleven murder trials, before judges from six of the seven counties within the District. I have represented individuals in death penalty cases. I am admitted to practice in U.S. District Court for the NDNY, SDNY and Vermont, the 2d Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court. I have tried major cases throughout the U.S. District Court NDNY and in Rutland, VT and have perfected appeals in state and federal court. I believe it is indispensable to the fair and effective administration of justice that judges treat everyone always with utmost dignity, patience, consistency and impartiality, despite the nature of the dispute or the litigant’s station in life. Judges also should be mindful of the paramount significance each case has to the litigants, regardless of the her/his perception of such case, and be diligent and endeavor to resolve cases efficiently and punctually.
