Personal Statement
  • Joseph “Joe” Robert Cassidy is an attorney practicing in Tompkins County, New York. He is a graduate of New York Law School and Tulane University. He attended Edinburgh University in Scotland as a Junior Year Abroad student. Joe was born in Elmira, New York in 1974, and was raised in Brooklyn, where he attended P.S. 170, McKinley Junior High, and Xaverian High School. Joe is the Supervising Attorney for the Department of Social Services, and has worked as an attorney for the Department since 2007. He also teaches English at Tompkins Cortland Community College. From 2004 until 2007, Joe was a solo-practitioner attorney in Ithaca. His primary practice was criminal defense through the county’s Assigned Counsel Program. Prior to 2004, he practiced immigration law in New York City. In 2012, Joe and his co-counsel, Daniel Feder, won an important Family Court case, Haley ZZ case before the New York Court of Appeals.
