Personal Statement
  • Katherine A. Levine is a senior counsel in the New York State United Teachers where she has worked for 23 years. She has extensive litigation experience in labor, education, constitutional, and administrative law at the federal and state, trial and appellate levels. She wom a $1.35 million jury verdict on behalf of a client who was wrongfully discharged for exercising her First Amendment right to speak and recently won a case of first impression before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit . She represented the Yonkers Federation of Teachers during the remedy phase of the Yonkers desegregation case. Ms. Levine has given a number of presentations on the First Amendment and academic freedom. Ms. Levine has served on the Board of Directors of the Kings Bay YM-YWHA and on the Regional Board of the Anti Defamation League. She is active in her synagogue and is on the School Leadership Team of P.S. 215. She also serves as a judge on the NYU Law School’s Moot Court Board and as an arbitrator in Brooklyn Small Claim’s Court. She is the proud mother of Sophia (10 years old) and Moira (4 years old ) and wife of Dr. Monty N. Weinstein.
