Personal Statement
  • As Dunkirk's City Court Judge & as Acting City Court Judge for 23 years, I have the hands-on experience to hande the numerous criminal, traffic, civil, small claim and landlord-tenant cases which come before the Court. Since becoming full-time in 4/07, I now have the opportunity to expand current programs such as Drug Court and additional court staff to help develop new programs(such as DWI & Mental Health Courts). Dunkirk was approved for a Drug Treatment Court and we were successfully in receiving 2 federal grants to plan and implement the Court. I received the 2006 Person of the Year Award from the Fredonia State Business Club, the 1993 Community Service Award from the N. Chautauqua Chamber of Commerce, and other awards from the Dunkirk Rotary Club, the Dunkirk -Fredonia NAACP and Fredonia State's Golden Key Society. I was previously on the School Board for the N. Chautauqua Catholic School(including Treasurer), the Dunkirk Free Library Board, the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce, ski club advisor, & am currently on the Historical Society Board, Literacy Volunteers Board & a Eucharistic Minister at my church. The Dunkirk Police Benevolent Assn has endorsed me 4 times.

  • Sole practioner-Private Practice of Law 1978-2007 in Northern Chautauqua County handling over 6,800 files for approximately 2600 clients including private individuals, churches, not-for profit organizations, business, & local municipalities
  • Fredonia State University College-Adjunct Lecturer-1979-1981,1984,& 2002-2004 teaching Introduction to Law, Business Law and Legal Environment of Business plus two interns per semester in Court
  • Deputy County Attorney for Chautauqua County from January 1, 1983 to November 30, 1988. Respinsible for non-insured litigation and Family Court matters-juvenile delinquents, support, visitation, and paternity).
  • City Attorney for the City of Dunkirk from January 23, 1978 to December 31, 1979. Responsible for City and urban renewal legal matters, drafting deeds, contracts, Common Council resolutions, leases; colective bargaining with 3 City unions,; prosecution of City ordinance violations; defense of City in lawsuits.
