Personal Statement
  • John F. Batt has been Judge of the Niagara County Family Court since July of 1997. He was originally appointed by the Governor and was subsequently elected to a full ten year term in November of that year. Judge Batt was previously a law guardian and an Assistant Niagara County Attorney. He was also engaged in private practice and taught at Niagara County Community College. Judge Batt is a graduate of Canisius College and SUNY at Buffalo Law School. Family Court is one of the busiest courts in the New York State Court System. Since becoming a Family Court Judge, Judge Batt has handled thousands of cases in Family Court. His emphasis is upon the best interests of the child. Judge Batt is has been rated by three Bar Associations. He has received the following ratings: Bar Association of Niagara County…A - Well Qualified Niagara Falls Bar Association…”A” (Superior) Women’s Bar Association…Outstanding In addition to these overall ratings, Judge Batt has been Rated Excellent in Judicial Temperament and Excellent in Legal Experience and Background for the Particular Position Sought which is Family Court Judge (Western New York Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association).
