Personal Statement
  • The Honorable Stephen W. Cass is the Surrogate Court Judge of Chautauqua County. Judge Cass was elected in 1999 and was appointed as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in 2001. He was appointed to the New York State Board of Public Administrators in 2001. He was elected by his fellow Surrogates and served as the President of the New York State Surrogates Association from 2007 until 2009. Judge Cass was instrumental in the establishment of a New Integrated Domestic Violence Court in Chautauqua County. In addition, he has been a presenter at several Continuing Legal Education seminars state-wide addressing Judges and the local bars. He has been actively involved in the implementation of a Pro Bono and Assigned Counsel Panel for indigent litigants in Chautauqua County. Judge Cass is proud to serve the people of Chautuauqua County in their Court.
