Candidate Biography
Personal Statement
  • Charles E. Stewart ("Terry") is no stranger to a just, honest and fair courtroom. In fact, it is in his blood. His father served as a Federal Southern District Court Judge in Manhattan. This has been a source of inspiration throughout his life, as he strives to bring a standard of justice to his practice and the court. A graduate of Fordham Law, Terry worked for a large firm in New York City before returning to Dutchess County. He worked for one of the County’s most prestigious firms, then established a partnership in Pawling. In addition to this practice, he served as Town Attorney for the Town of Pawling for 20 years, was a tax hearing officer, and member of the Chapter 7 Trustee Panel for the US Bankruptcy Court. Terry currently resides in Pawling with his wife Gillian and sons Andrew and Cameron. He is respected by his colleagues, clients, and members of the community for his fairness and standard of excellence. Terry epitomizes the Rotary slogan of “service above self,” serving the community as a Trustee of Dutchess Community College, and member of the Pawling School Board, the Pawling Zoning Board of Appeals, and Pawling Rotary.
